Mato Kaić - Photographs beneath the Bosnian sun: a Touring exhibition of the Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica - Livno (BiH)

24.03.2017 - 15.05.2017

Other exhibitions

The exhibition has been produced in collaboration with the Franciscan Museum and Gallery Gorica – Livno.

It presents the photographic work of Mate Kaić, an amateur photograph from Livno of the first half of the 20th century.  The subjects of the hundred or so photographs categorise them into several genres: landscapes, views, people, genre, the Adriatic and animals.

Historical and ethnographic motifs with an underlying patriotism dominate in his oeuvre.  Photographs with depictions of ordinary people, genre scenes, views and landscapes tell of the everyday life of the time.  Notwithstanding the hard life and the work, sometimes the poverty, all of Kaić’s scenes are full of life, they are warm and nostalgic, the people bright and cheerful. As well as a great artistic, Kaić’s photographs also have a significant documentary value.

The exhibition was first shown in public in June 2015, as part of the event the Naša Gorica Cultural and Religious Days in the home museum in Livno.

Exhibition created by Ružica Barišić and Željka Markov
Dubrovnik exhibition curated by Marina Filipović
