The exhibition has been produced in association with the Ethnographic Museum in Zagreb.
Christmas ornaments from the collection of Ethnographic museum presented in the exhibition date from the end of the 19th and 20th century while the idea of the exhibition is to present different kinds of ornaments, various ways of making them and decorations. However, absence of this praxis in certain parts of Croatia is also considered. Two kinds of ornaments, made of different materials and techniques, will be presented to visitors. These ornaments are divided in two groups – homemade for personal use and serial ornaments made for selling.
As with all traditions and customs ways of celebrating Christmas are in constant transformation so with time Christmas ornaments also change due to the difference in availability of materials and production techniques while style, place and way of making ornaments reflects spirit and taste of time but also socio-economic conditions.
Exhibition thematises Christmas greenery, especially Christmas tree and different connotations it had throughout history. Exhibition setting will raise a question about the age of traditions we know today.
