Helmet of an Illyrian Warrior

25.01.2013 - 25.03.2013

Other exhibitions

The exhibition has been produced by Dubrovnik Museums, Archaeological Museum

The exhibition Helmet of an Illyrian Warrior features a reconstructed bronze helmet originating from about 500 BC.  The three fragments of the helmet, discovered at an unknown site in Cavtat, were donated to what was then the Patriotic Museum in the second half of the 19th century.  About the circumstances of the find, however, we have no precise information.

Thanks to a recent find of two helmets of the same type in the general area of Dubrovnik, the helmet of the Illyrian warrior in the Archaeological Museum has been successfully reconstructed, and is now being presented in an exhibition in the Rector's palace.

Helmets of this kind are among the most common grave goods of the Illyrian warrior tumuli of the 5th century BC, and belonged to warriors of the highest rank.

The exhibition has been devised and designed by Ivona Michl.
